1901 census...Aged 2, he was at North Street, Mildenhall with his father Matthew MORLEY [45] a builder; his mother Harriet[43]; brothers Mathew [15] bricklayer, and Archibald [10]; sister Florence [12]. All recorded as born in Mildenhall. 1911 census... Aged 12, he was in Beck Row with his parents and brothers Matthew John and Archibald, both bricklayers. |

He enlisted in Newmarket. The war diary has:- Neuvilly -01:00-Patrol under 2/Lt E Barnes occupied and held mill houses about k.9.c.5.1. {SHEET 57B} Patrol under 2/Lt H Bryant encountered enemy hodling copse on E side of river in k.8.d. and k.9.a.0.0. 2/Lt Bryant wounded and 8 casualties OR. 02:00 -ZERO. Barrage on enemy positions. DORSETS N of village, E YORKS S of village advance to attack, each closely followed by two coys of W YORKS, ie A & D Coys North, and B & C South. 05:00 Village cleared and battn took up position E of and along line of the railway in k.2.d and k.9.a BHQ established at k.8.a.7.8. 06:00 Coys re-organised and consolidation of their positions. Enemy shelled NEUVILLY and the valley intermittently throughout the day, mostly gas.
